Editorial Board

Editor-in-Chief: Johnson Thomas, MD, FACE, FEAA, serves as Section Chair of Endocrinology at Mercy Hospital Springfield. He is an Associate Editor for Clinical Thyroidology and a member of the Editorial Board for Thyroid.

Dr. Thomas specializes in thyroid diseases, focusing on applying artificial intelligence to endocrine practice. He holds two US patents related to thyroid nodule risk stratification and has led multiple initiatives integrating AI into clinical decision-making.

An experienced researcher and innovator, Dr. Thomas actively collaborates with clinicians, engineers, and industry partners to develop scalable, AI-driven solutions aimed at improving patient outcomes. He is an active software developer who contributes to open-source projects bridging medicine and technology.

Dr. Thomas is a frequent voice in discussions on digital health and the evolving future of endocrinology, with an emphasis on precision medicine and technology enabled care.

Deputy Editor: Vishnu Priya Pulipati, MD, FACE, DipABCL, is a board-certified Endocrinologist and Lipidologist at Saint Francis Health System in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her work focuses on cardiometabolic disease, with a particular emphasis on complex lipid disorders.

She is a co-author of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology 2025 Dyslipidemia Clinical Practice Guideline and contributes to national education, peer-reviewed literature, and clinician training. She is also the founder and host of LipidCurious Podcast, a clinician-focused platform dedicated to simplifying cardiometabolic medicine.

Her work sits at the intersection of endocrinology and emerging technologies, with a focus on how artificial intelligence can enhance risk assessment, therapeutic decision-making, and clinician education. She is particularly interested in translating AI into practical, clinician-facing tools that improve real-world cardiometabolic care.

Board member: David Toro-Tobon, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Endocrinology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where he serves as an Investigator at the Care and AI Laboratory. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

As a clinician, Dr. Toro-Tobon specializes in complex thyroid disorders, including thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules, and thyroid eye disease. He has led numerous prospective and quality improvement studies on advanced therapies for thyroid eye disease and novel redifferentiation strategies for radioactive iodine-refractory thyroid cancer.

His technical research is focused on integrating natural language processing and computer vision into endocrine practice. An active researcher and peer-reviewer in the medical AI space, his work aims to evaluate and deploy multimodal AI approaches that improve diagnostic accuracy and streamline clinical workflows in thyroid oncology. Beyond his clinical and research roles, Dr. Toro-Tobon is an active leader in the field, currently serving as the Early Career Director on the Board of Directors of the Endocrine Society.

Board member: David Ahn, MD is an endocrinologist and Chief of Diabetes Services at the Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center in Newport Beach, CA, where he is also the recipient of the Dr. Kris V. Iyer Endowed Chair in Diabetes Care. He previously was an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA, and he received his medical degree and completed a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of California San Diego. 

As a clinician and researcher, he has contributed to publications such as The New England Journal of Medicine, Diabetes Care, and the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology. He is also the author of the chapter “Diabetes Apps” for the ADA-published book, Diabetes Technology: Science and Practice.  He is extremely optimistic about the future of digital therapeutics, artificial intelligence, and smart insulin delivery systems. In his free time, he shares educational videos on TikTok (@DiabetesDoc) and Instagram (@AhnCall).
